Tibor Nađ – The Novi Bečej artist who united design, painting, and the soul of the plains

The renowned artist and painter Tibor Nađ was born in Novi Bečej on March 23, 1952. He completed his primary education in his hometown and later graduated from the Bogdan Šuput School of Design in Novi Sad, majoring in Interior and Furniture Design.

He began his professional career in the furniture industry, where he worked on the development of kitchen elements and the design of exhibition stands across the former Yugoslavia and abroad. His creative work included interior design for banks, offices, and hospitality venues throughout Vojvodina, as well as the production of decorative ceramics and terracotta compositions.

In 1993, Novi Bečej hosted for the first time the musical festival “Horizons on the Tisa” (Obzorja na Tisi), which would grow into a long-standing cultural tradition. Tibor Nađ actively contributed to shaping its visual identity and stage design, a field in which he would remain engaged for the next two decades. He was also deeply connected to another major local art event — the “Tisa Watercolor Academy” (Tiska akademija akvarela) — where he participated both as an organizer and an artist for many years.

He was the author of terracotta works depicting bread and ritual cakes, today exhibited in the Serbian Bread Museum in Pećinci. Nađ also designed and created the complex stage scenery for the opera “The Boy Who Feared Nothing” by composer Dimitrije Golemović.

Throughout his prolific career, he participated in more than 150 exhibitions and art colonies in Serbia and abroad, earning numerous awards and recognitions. He also held around twenty solo exhibitions.

Tibor Nađ passed away on December 29, 2019. He left behind a rich artistic legacy preserved in private collections, cultural institutions, and public spaces. Although he is no longer with us, the fruits of his creativity remain as a timeless testament to his artistic soul.
