The band Ribica Kiseonik from Novi Bečej is celebrating an impressive ten years of existence this year. What started as informal gatherings has evolved into a musical adventure that brings together friends and rock enthusiasts. Their unique sound, infused with the diverse musical tastes of its members, has become recognizable on the local scene. With numerous gigs, creative projects, and unforgettable moments, Ribica Kiseonik remains true to its mission – for them, music is more than just sound; it's a way to spread positive energy and enjoy every moment.
Here’s their story about their beginnings, inspirations, and future plans!
Who makes up your band and how did you come together?
The band Ribica Kiseonik, believe it or not, is celebrating ten years of existence in 2024. It started as an idea to meet once a week, without any obligations, just for fun. And from that casual atmosphere, we formed a band.
The band members are:
- Nikola Stanisavljev – vocals
- Dragan Volkov Čoka – drums
- Boris Vasić – bass
- Vladimir Tubin – lead guitar
- Marjan Trifunjagić – rhythm guitar
What genre do you play and what inspired you to choose that style?
Our music is essentially rock, but we have a bit of everything. Each band member brings something unique, whether through musical taste or individual style. This makes us unique – everyone adds their own touch, and that shapes our sound.
What musical influences have shaped your work? Which artists or bands do you admire and how have they affected your style?
We’ve been influenced by many local bands and artists, such as Skladišta 58, Sveti Gral, Keme, Zemljotres, Bata Voja, Đusija Kovača, PIR, and a band from Novi Sad. Each of these artists has influenced our style and what we create in their own way.
What motivates you to write and perform music? What are your sources of inspiration?
As long as we’re having fun, we’ll keep hanging out and playing music. It’s not just about the music – through the videos we make with friends, learning audio and video production, and appearances on the radio and TV, all contribute to our creative process. Generally, fun and working together are what inspire us the most.
Do you have a favorite album or song? Can you tell us more about it?
Each of us probably has a favorite album or compilation in mind. Sometimes we like something in the moment, and then it wears off later. Or it can be like this: we’ll give you a list of songs we play, and let that be our top 40:
What are your impressions of performances in Novi Bečej or nearby places? Do you have any unforgettable concert experiences?
We’re somewhat like Hobbits – we rarely go outside our region. Generally, people support us, and there’s always a good atmosphere at our gigs. Performances in Novi Bečej always carry a special energy.
Are you working on new projects or albums?
We’re most active during the winter in terms of recording and rehearsals. We’re planning to celebrate the band’s ten-year anniversary, throw a party, and invite friends. It will be an opportunity for a new project to possibly emerge.
What advice would you give to young bands and musicians who want to enter the music world?
We don’t really have a universal piece of advice. Everyone should do what they think is right. Find what they love and follow their own path.
