There were many enthusiasts of song and theatrical art in Novi Bečej and Vranjevo. The youth nurtured both song and theatrical art, considering that there was an exceptionally rich tradition of theatrical art. Among the several amateur theater troupes that existed over time, the "Napredak" Amateur Theater Troupe in Vranjevo holds a special place. This troupe operated from 1901 until the occupation of Yugoslavia during World War II.
The greatest credit for the successful and long-lasting work of "Napredak" goes to Arsen Pecarski. Through his selfless efforts and even material sacrifices, he contributed to making "Napredak" a beloved and respected organization among the youth in Vranjevo. Arsen was the organizer, long-time director, and versatile actor. He was so gifted for the stage that he could take on any of the leading roles in the plays presented by "Napredak" as needed.
Thanks to Arsen, "Napredak" became a favorite among the residents of Vranjevo and Novi Bečej. All the young people eagerly awaited being included among those Arsen relied upon. The troupe was large and had a very extensive repertoire for amateur standards, comparable to the repertoire of a modest professional theater. Arsen ensured that "Napredak's" program was modernized and included works by contemporary writers, but he did not allow it to stray from the desires and tastes of his fellow citizens. Therefore, pieces from folk life with singing were never removed from the stage. For the people of Vranjevo, songs and music were inseparable from every celebration and every beautiful moment.
