Development of industry in Novi Bečej

Among the economic sectors of the Novi Bečej sub-region, the industry belongs to the younger group. The first traces of industry emerged at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. The precursors to today's diverse industries were the first steam mills and factories for the production of bricks and tiles. After the Second World War, concurrent with the development of more diverse and intensive agriculture, industries gradually gained a more significant place in the municipality's economy. From 1960 onwards, faster industrial development began, and the Novi Bečej sub-region transformed from a typically agrarian area into an agrarian-industrial area of northern Banat.

Various branches of industry are now represented within the municipality: construction ceramics industry, machinery industry, textile industry, footwear industry, food industry, and printing industry. With the implementation of the Social Development Plan of the municipality from 1980 to 1985, the chemical industry also gradually developed. The main drivers of development among industrial organizations are the Construction Ceramics Industry "Polet" and the Equipment and Supplies Factory "FOP" in Novi Bečej. These two organizations have the largest number of workers, achieve the highest production, and have the greatest share in creating the national income in the municipality. Through continuous industrial development, capacity expansion, and increased production, this economic sector is already contributing to the development of more diverse and intensive agriculture.
