The First Championship Title of KK Jedinstvo DEKO | 1992/93 Season

The historical events surrounding the breakup of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the establishment of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia on April 27, 1992, also had a significant impact on sports competitions.

The former federal leagues were dissolved, and new competitions were established. Shortly before the start of the 1992 season, at a meeting held in Ruma, it was decided to abolish the Women's First Federal League and create the Unified Serbian League, consisting of 14 clubs. The teams that had already competed in the Unified Serbian League were joined by former First League clubs from Serbia: EDB Belgrade, DEKO Bačko Gradište, and Kristal Zrenjanin.

The stronger level of competition and the increased costs of competing in the top division led to the merger of the women's teams of Jedinstvo from Novi Bečej and DEKO from Bačko Gradište before the start of the championship. The goal was to reduce expenses while creating a stronger team from two competitive clubs. It was therefore decided that, in the inaugural championship of the newly established Federal Republic of Yugoslavia during the 1992/93 season, the merged club would compete under the name Jedinstvo DEKO, with its headquarters in Novi Bečej.

Laslo Makra (Jedinstvo) and Zoltan Nađ (DEKO) were appointed as head coaches, while Bogomir Momirov joined the coaching staff during the season.

The Jedinstvo DEKO squad for the 1992/93 season included: Đenđi Kiš, Mira Štefkić, Jasmina Lalić, Gordana Lalić, and Izabela Kirti (Novi Bečej); Matilda Nađ (Bačko Gradište); Julija Zavarko and Iboja Horvat (Bečej); and Eva Loci, Marija Šoldiš, and Eržebet Juhas (Ada). The coaching staff consisted of Laslo Makra, Bogomir Momirov, and Zoltan Nađ, while the club president was Kajica Nonin, a long-time bowling official from Bečej.

With a talented and well-balanced roster, Jedinstvo DEKO quickly established itself as one of the strongest teams in the championship and emerged as a serious contender for the national title. During the first half of the season, the club played its home matches in Novi Bečej, while the second half of the championship was played in Bečej.

Their greatest rival in the race for the championship was the team from Vrbas, which spent much of the season at the top of the standings and at one point held a six-point advantage.

Outstanding performances in the final stages of the championship enabled Jedinstvo DEKO to erase the deficit and finish the season level on points with Vrbas.

According to the competition rules at the time, if two teams finished the championship with the same number of points, the champion was decided in a playoff match at a neutral venue, commonly known as a "decider." It was decided that the decisive match would be played on April 22, 1993, at the bowling alley of the SPC Vojvodina Sports and Business Center in Novi Sad.
